As the indulgent caretaker of a non-releasable princess opossum, I would like to thank you for all you have done to make me feel more normal. Peach seems both lovely and content. Since a lot of things eat opossums and they honestly can’t run very fast, I think Peach is perfectly happy living out her sunset days with gourmet cooking, pedicures, and massage. We should all be so lucky.
I understand that opossums should not be fed high protein diets. Several of the little critters reside in or near my backyard and are always looking for food from me to supplement their diet. Any suggestions?
Hi Barry,
In general it’s best not to feed the wildlife. “A fed squirrel is a dead squirrel” and so on across the species. Feeding gives them a false sense of natural availability and natural enemies. But if you MUST supplement your possies go for ripe persimmons, the squat kind.
